Callum Slattery Gets Four-Game Ban for Simulation

Motherwell midfielder Callum Slattery has received a four-game ban after being cited for simulation that led to St Mirren defender Richard King's red card being rescinded. The incident occurred during Motherwell's 5-0 win over St Mirren in Paisley last month, when Slattery fell to the ground and referee Calum Scott showed King a red card for alleged contact with Slattery's face.

Video Assistant Referee (VAR) did not intervene to overturn the decision despite what Motherwell claims was an apparent lack of contact. King's red card was later overturned on appeal, but the Scottish FA's compliance officer proceeded with disciplinary action against Slattery. The club has strongly criticized the decision, calling it "a third layer of refereeing" that has been implemented.

Motherwell argues that "poor quality" cameras mean there is no conclusive evidence that King's arm did not touch Slattery's face. The club claims this is the first instance in Scottish football where a player has received a match suspension via retrospective action for inappropriate behavior, and they question why this incident meets the criteria when countless similar incidents have not resulted in retrospective bans.
