St Mirren manager Craig McLeish has been charged by the Scottish FA over comments about referee Sean Murdoch following their League Cup tie against Dunfermline. McLeish questioned Murdoch's impartiality, asking "who was he a goalkeeper for?" referencing Murdoch's past with Dunfermline.

The 36-year-old insisted he was joking and not questioning impartiality, telling Sky Sports News he is "disappointed" by the action. The Scottish FA charged him for breaching disciplinary rule 72, which forbids publicly criticising match officials in a way indicating bias or incompetence. A hearing is set for August 27.

St Mirren acknowledged the notice and will assess next steps. This follows Rangers manager Derek McInnes receiving a four-match ban for breaching the same rule when Hearts boss, and former Motherwell player Elliot Watt handed a four-match ban for describing a penalty award as "worst VAR decision in history." Motherwell were also fined £5,000.
