Birmingham City has signed Marie Levasseur, the 29‑year‑old Canadian defender, from Montpellier, where she made 63 appearances over three seasons. WAS previous spells at FC Fleury, Metz, ONS Oulu, and the University of Memphis, and she earned 18 caps for Canada after debuting in 2015. “I’ve always wanted to play in the WSL. I think it’s one of the best leagues nowadays on the women’s side,” she said. “I’ve heard about the project that the women’s side are doing and, talking with the coach and the staff, I feel like the team identity really speaks to me.” Birmingham’s manager Amy Merricks praised her mentality and excitement to challenge herself and join the club’s next chapter.

Levasseur becomes the fourth signing this week, following Jade Rastocle, Millie Turner and Lisa Naalsund. She arrived after a successful spell in France, where she helped Montpellier secure a league spot, and is expected to strengthen the backline. Her experience in international tournaments, including the 2023 Women’s World Cup squad, brings a competitive edge.
