Birmingham City have signed former Manchester United defender Millie Turner for an undisclosed six-figure fee as they prepare to return to the Women's Super League. The 30-year-old becomes the first signing this summer for City, who won the WSL 2 title last season to end a five‑year absence from the top flight.

Turner made 189 appearances across eight years for United, helping them rise from Women's Super League 2 to become one of the division’s leading teams. She has represented England twice and has agreed a three‑year deal with Amy Merricks’ ambitious promoted side. “This is where I want to be,” Turner said. “It’s an exciting project and I think there’s no ceiling to what we can achieve here.”

Turner came through the ranks at Manchester United before joining Everton and later spending four years at Bristol City. Upon her return to the north west in 2018, she established herself as a crucial member of the United side, with only Ella Toone making more appearances for the club.

Manchester United director of women’s football Matt Johnson praised Turner’s contribution: “Millie’s impact will continue long after she has departed, shaping the culture of our group.” Merricks echoed this, highlighting her experience, quality and leadership.
