Auchinleck Talbot's Celtic Cup Tie is Village's Biggest Day

Auchinleck Talbot's Scottish Cup tie against Celtic is being called the biggest event in the Ayrshire village since The Who played there in 1969. The sixth-tier part-timers, a team of tradesmen, will face the Scottish champions at Rugby Park after their 4,000-capacity ground was deemed unsuitable for the occasion.

The club's historian calls it a David and Goliath moment, recalling their near-miss against Hearts in 2012. That historic run, where they led until the 84th minute, remains a painful 'what if.' Current manager Tommy Sloan, a forklift driver, knows the challenge is even tougher now with Celtic legend Martin O'Neill back at the helm.

Talbot's preparations have been hampered by frozen pitches, leaving them without a competitive game since December. Captain Neil McPherson says the dressing room is split between Celtic and Rangers fans, but all have taken Monday off to recover. Sloan is drawing on past giant-killings, hoping to score first and put pressure on the visitors.
