Fifa President Gianni Infantino's plan to sell stakes in its competitions to private investors, potentially raising $4.2bn, faces opposition from Uefa. However, the Confederation of African Football (Caf) has remained largely silent, with its president, Patrice Motsepe, expressing strong loyalty to Infantino. Many African football federations struggle financially, making the lure of $40m from Fifa enticing, especially with an initial $20m available early next year.

While other confederations oppose the plan, African nations have benefited from previous Fifa funding, such as an increased World Cup allocation to nine spots. Infantino's support for African development is highlighted, with promises of further financial assistance for grassroots football and infrastructure. This support has led to improved financial stability for Caf.

Despite the potential financial benefits, some express concerns about the commercialization of football and its long-term implications. The close relationship between Caf and Fifa, fostered by Infantino and Motsepe, has led to a reluctance from Caf to publicly challenge Fifa's decisions, even when faced with criticism from other governing bodies.
