Fifa is planning to sell a significant minority stake in a new commercial entity valued at approximately $20bn, seeking to capitalize on the success of the recent World Cup. The governing body is collaborating with bankers at JPMorgan to raise billions by offering external investors an estimated 20 per cent stake.

Led by Gianni Infantino, Fifa anticipates generating at least $13bn in revenue for its current four-year cycle, a substantial increase from the $7.6bn in the previous cycle, largely due to the commercial success of the World Cup held in the US, Mexico, and Canada. The funds raised from this stake sale are intended to increase financial support for Fifa's national member associations.

This move follows Fifa's broader strategic initiatives, including the expansion of the Club World Cup and considerations for increasing the World Cup's team count. Other sports organizations, such as Spanish and French football leagues, have previously established separate commercial entities to attract external capital. These investment plans have been under development for several months and await final approval.
