Spain World Cup winner Rodri has completed his move to Barcelona from Manchester City for around £65m, signing a four-year contract at the Nou Camp. The 30-year-old midfielder returns to Spanish football for the first time since leaving Atletico Madrid in 2019, expressing excitement about the new challenge.

Rodri, the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner, stated: "I'm very happy and excited about this new stage in my career. It's a fresh challenge, a chance to experience new things and feel that excitement again."

His final two seasons at City were disrupted by injury, but he returned to top form during this summer's World Cup, being named player of the tournament as Spain won the trophy. Rodri made 298 appearances for City, winning 12 major honours including four Premier League titles and the 2023 Champions League.

Barcelona's pursuit wasn't just about squad depth - Frenkie de Jong's long-term injury influenced the decision. Rodri can anchor the team, offer positional discipline, and dictate game tempo. His arrival also prevents Real Madrid from signing one of the world's best midfielders.
