Barcelona remain optimistic of signing Manchester City midfielder Rodri, while they also plan to offer Marc Bernal an improved contract, a source told ESPN. Barça failed with a first bid of around €50 million for Rodri last week but remain in negotiations with City. A club source described the deal as “complex” but noted optimism after agreeing personal terms with the Spain international. City value Rodri at more than €70m, with Real Madrid also previously interested.

Meanwhile, Barça will offer Bernal a new deal to ward off interest from clubs in England, Germany and Italy, a source confirmed. Sporting director Deco will meet with Bernal’s representatives soon. Bernal, 19, signed a contract until 2030 last year but was promised improved terms after returning from an ACL injury. After nearly a year out, he made 33 appearances this season, scoring five goals.

Barça are well stocked in midfield with Pedri, Gavi, Fermín López, and Dani Olmo, while Marc Casadó has been told he can leave. Bernal remains firmly part of Barça’s long-term plans, and sources say he is keen to renew at the club he joined in 2014.
