Computer Reset was a large used computer store and warehouse in northeast Dallas whose heyday was in the 1980s and 1990s, but it remained a go-to source for vintage and retro computer parts into the 2010s. Its fame grew after it closed in 2019 when several prominent Youtubers visited the facility and made videos about it. The store, founded by Richard Byron around 1984 or 1985, operated from a 18,000 square foot facility on the 9500 block of Skillman Street near Garland.

It specialized in IBM equipment, including the PCjr, Portable PC, and PS/2 series, and even carried a militarized IBM 5170. At 18,000 square feet, it was comparable to half a Best Buy, packed with gear from the 1980s onward. Prominent Youtuber LGR described it as 38,000 square feet, though property records show the building itself was closer to 18,000 sq ft on a 39,976 sq ft lot.

The store unofficially closed in 2018, and Byron died in September 2019 at age 75. The liquidation followed due to the building’s $1.6 million tax valuation and $46,000 annual tax liability, making it a financial burden. With no viable buyer and the store’s inventory becoming a liability, the family chose to liquidate rather than rent or redevelop.

The challenges of selling the business were significant, requiring capital and interest from potential enthusiasts.
