NEW YORK -- Carlos Beltran wouldn't rule out interviewing for the New York Mets manager position, a role he briefly held in 2020 before leaving amid the Houston Astros sign-stealing scandal. However, he expressed contentment with his current life, citing his love for being a dad, husband, and involved in the Carlos Beltran Academy in Puerto Rico.

Beltran, a nine-time All-Star whose No. 15 was retired Saturday, was inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame before the team's next-to-last home game of a disappointing season. Carlos Mendoza was fired on June 26 as the high-spending Mets struggled to a losing record. Interim manager Andy Green, who wants to return to a front office role next year, has led the team to a 36-37 record entering Saturday.

"Being a manager in Major League Baseball is a huge commitment," Beltran said. "Right now, I love what I'm doing. I believe that the opportunity the Mets are giving me to be part of the organization and be able to comment on the things I experienced as a baseball player -- to hopefully continue to add value to the decisions that they're making."

Beltran, elected to baseball's Hall of Fame in January, hit .280 with 149 homers and 100 stolen bases during his six-plus seasons with the Mets from 2005 to 2011.
