McLaren driver Lando Norris faces a 10-place grid penalty at the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps after the team fits a fourth power electronics unit, exceeding the seasonal allowance of three. The Mercedes-powered squad confirmed the change on Thursday, citing reliability upgrades from Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains.

Norris had already used his third control electronics unit following issues in China and Japan. With Mercedes introducing reliability fixes to its new power electronics systems, McLaren opted to take the penalty at Spa, where overtaking is more feasible, rather than at the upcoming Hungary and Zandvoort rounds. The team plans to use this fourth unit for the remainder of the season.

Teammate Oscar Piastri will move to his third power electronics unit without penalty. McLaren will also receive Mercedes' latest internal combustion engine specification, which the factory team debuted in Austria and fellow customers Alpine and Williams received at Silverstone. The upgraded ICE is expected to improve reliability.
