McLaren and Red Bull push appeal over Gasly's Monaco podium reversal

McLaren and Red Bull filed appeals challenging the stewards’ reversal that reinstated Pierre Gasly’s Monaco podium. A timing‑loop glitch had incorrectly flagged several cars for pit‑lane speeding, giving Gasly a five‑second penalty that pushed him from third to seventh. The FIA voided all penalties, restoring Gasly to third and dropping Isack Hadjar and Oscar Piastri behind him.

Both teams appealed specific documents – the revised classification, championship standings and the stewards’ reinstatement – arguing that the decision rewards Gasly for not serving his penalty while punishing drivers who did. The appeal triggers a €5,000 fee and €20,000 deposit, sending the case to the International Court of Appeal in Geneva, an independent tribunal that can confirm, alter or waive the original sanctions.

The appellants have 15 days to submit written arguments in French and English; the FIA then has a matching period to respond, followed by at least another 15 days before a hearing, likely in July. A majority of the 36‑judge panel will decide the outcome, with the president breaking any tie, meaning Gasly’s Monaco result could be permanently changed.
