McLaren and Red Bull Challenge Gasly's Monaco Podium Decision

McLaren and Red Bull have officially appealed the FIA stewards' decision to reinstate Pierre Gasly's Monaco Grand Prix podium finish. The Alpine driver initially received two five-second penalties for pitlane speeding violations, but these were later rescinded after FOM evidence revealed measurement discrepancies at Monaco's unique pitlane entry.

McLaren Racing confirmed its appeal to the FIA International Court of Appeal, arguing the revised decision creates sporting inequity. The team emphasized that all competitors followed regulations during the race weekend and adjusted their procedures accordingly. McLaren stated the appeal focuses on ensuring consistent application of FIA Sporting Regulations rather than targeting any specific driver.

Red Bull has similarly lodged an appeal after Isack Hadjar lost his podium position to Gasly following the penalty removal. Mercedes is also pursuing a right of review, though the team awaits FIA feedback on whether their request is admissible. The controversy stems from the fact that while Gasly's penalties were overturned, other drivers had already served similar penalties during the race.

This dispute highlights tensions over regulatory consistency in Formula 1. The outcome could set precedent for how timing discrepancies affect race results and championship points distribution across the season.
