Turn 1 at the Hungaroring has been partially resurfaced overnight following driver complaints after Friday practice for the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix. Recent resurfacing combined with hot, dry weather caused sub-surface settlement, worsening bumps at Turns 1, 12 and 13. The surface had begun breaking up, particularly on the racing line at Turn 1 — a crucial overtaking zone.

"It was quite a strange day out there," said Mercedes' George Russell. "Budapest is an amazing track to drive but they've resurfaced half of the track, super bumpy... making it quite strange to drive on." Pirelli reported grip levels lower than expected and lower than last year. Issues were first observed during the International GT Open two weekends prior.

Drivers missing FP1 for mandatory rookie sessions struggled in FP2. Alpine's Franco Colapinto crashed at Turn 12, a resurfaced area. "The new parts of the track are not very grippy," said Oscar Piastri, whose McLaren was driven by Leonardo Fornaroli in FP1.

The FIA directed repairs before FP3 and qualifying. "Two areas were addressed, one online and one to the right of the line where an overtaking car would travel," the FIA stated.
