F1 Sets Summer Deadline to Re‑add Middle Eastern Race

Formula 1 has set a summer break deadline to recover one of its postponed Middle Eastern races, still aiming to add Bahrain or Saudi Arabia to the calendar. Both events were called off in March after U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran. With hostilities lingering, the series drafted contingency plans for its season‑ending races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. A ceasefire and a memorandum of understanding promise a resolution within 60 days.

Laurent Rossi Domenicali said he hopes the calendar can finish as planned and that a race could be re‑added. He added a decision must come before the August break, because logistics are tight. The only realistic slot is the one‑week gap between the Azerbaijan and Singapore rounds, most likely for the Bahrain Grand Prix.

In the worst case, F1 has a backup plan to move the final races to Portimão in Portugal, a test run before the venue returns in 2027. The deadline for that decision sits at mid‑September. Domenicali stressed it is the organizer’s duty to have plans ready.
