F1 Bahrain and Saudi Races Cancelled Amid Middle East Conflict

Formula 1 faces an imminent decision on the fate of its April races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia as escalating Middle East violence threatens to derail the calendar. The twinned races, scheduled for 12 April in Bahrain and 19 April in Jeddah, are now hanging by a thread as the US and Israeli conflict with Iran continues to engulf the region.

F1 had set a 10-day deadline following the Australian Grand Prix to make a final call, but with freight logistics already in motion and no signs of de-escalation, that window is closing fast. Some team equipment remains in Bahrain from pre-season testing, but the rest of the freight would need to depart imminently to meet the April deadlines. The critical Strait of Hormuz has seen severe shipping disruptions, with vessels reportedly struck near the UAE and Iraq.

Multiple reports indicate both races will be cancelled, with a final announcement expected within 48 hours. The decision would create a six-week gap in the 2026 calendar between the Japanese and Miami rounds, though F1 sources confirm there are no plans for emergency European replacements due to prohibitive logistical and commercial challenges.
