Pierre Gasly's crash that red-flagged Formula 1's Belgian Grand Prix Free Practice 2 was attributed to a "small snap" of oversteer at the exit of Turn 14, according to Alpine managing director Steve Nielsen. The incident sent Gasly into the gravel and then into the barrier.

"A small mistake, which on a lot of other tracks would have been fine, but on this track you get punished for it in certain places, and that's what happened," Nielsen explained. Gasly himself confirmed the "huge snap" that made recovery impossible. Despite the incident, the session was encouraging for Alpine's performance.

Franco Colapinto secured seventh place in FP2, significantly ahead of the second-quickest midfield car, Arvid Lindblad's Racing Bulls. "We've found a little bit of performance this weekend," Colapinto stated, attributing some of the improvement to cooler conditions and the track's lower-speed corners. This marked a positive shift after recent struggles to reach Q3.

Alpine also tested an updated halo and various new parts across both cars. "Overall it's been a good day of testing," Gasly commented, emphasizing the need to analyze the data to optimize their setup for qualifying and the race.
