OpenAI's Codex Builds Live Websites

OpenAI's Codex now enables users to generate and deploy live websites and lightweight applications directly from conversational prompts. This feature, referred to as 'ChatGPT Sites,' allows teams to create internal resources like project launch trackers, review dashboards, or simple calculators without writing code. Users describe their needs, iterate with Codex through chat, and then deploy a hosted site accessible within their workspace.

These generated sites include built-in hosting, access controls, storage, and database support. The workflow emphasizes starting with a focused use case, describing the desired site content and audience, reviewing initial versions, and making iterative changes via natural language instructions. Once satisfied, users can deploy the site and share it with specific team members or groups, with admin controls available for enterprise environments.

While not designed for complex software products, ChatGPT Sites offer a practical solution for disseminating project information or interactive tools internally. The current iteration requires separate automation for sites needing live data updates, as direct connections are not yet supported. This development signifies a move towards making internal tooling creation more accessible to non-developers within organizations.
