Replit has introduced Free Mode, powered by GPT-5.6 Luna, allowing anyone to transform ideas into functional software without incurring token costs. This new offering reflects the evolving economics of AI models, where improved price performance enables broader access across products and workflows. Replit, an early adopter of GPT-3, collaborated with OpenAI to make software creation more accessible to users regardless of technical background.

For the first time, users can build applications, agents, and other software in Free Mode, leveraging the capabilities of GPT-5.6 Luna. Replit CEO Amjad Masad emphasized that recent OpenAI price cuts made it feasible to extend this experience to millions of users. The model's combination of capability, cost efficiency, and scalable inference was key to overcoming previous cost barriers.

Free Mode provides fast, accurate responses, suggestions, and analysis without consuming usage credits. Agent maintains full project context, helping users plan and refine ideas before entering Build Mode. For complex tasks, Replit can route to GPT-5.6 Sol while preserving context. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, highlighted the potential for an entrepreneurial boom as software creation becomes accessible to anyone with internet access.
