The developer of the popular ad-blocking tool uBlock Origin shared on Reddit that the extension will stop filtering Facebook ads. This decision follows years of conflict, as Facebook continuously changes its mechanisms to bypass blockers. Developers cited the platform's continuous circumvention of filters as the primary reason for abandoning support.

Facebook has employed sophisticated tactics to defeat filters, such as splitting the word "Sponsored" into individual letters wrapped in separate lines of code. These techniques have been in use for roughly five years, sometimes involving randomized letter orders and fake characters to throw off pattern-matching filters.

One developer described the platform as a "disgusting anti-user site" that monitors open-source projects to deliver malicious ads. While the tool's support is being phased out on Chrome due to the switch to MV3, it remains available on Firefox and Brave. The development team noted that volunteers are welcome to submit filter fixes via pull requests if they wish to continue the fight.
