Microsoft Edge to End Support for MV2 Ad Blockers

Microsoft Edge is ending support for the Manifest V2 extensions platform, which will cut off the u Block Origin adblocker and others like it, mirroring Google Chrome's recent actions. According to Microsoft, only 58 extensions on the Edge Add-On Store with meaningful usage still use MV2, and only three of those are not yet available on the newer MV3 platform.

Starting this month, Microsoft says any remaining MV2 extensions will be gradually turned off by default, though users will be notified beforehand. Those affected can switch to a different adblocker, such as u Block Origin Lite, or migrate to browsers like Opera or Firefox that still support existing MV2 extensions.

Microsoft plans to complete the transition for consumer users by the end of 2026. Managed devices will not be affected during the consumer rollout, but enterprise deprecation is scheduled to follow in early 2027.
