You’ll need to prepare your SSN and a valid government-issued photo ID, such as driver’s license or passport, to set up or verify your ID.me account through TreasuryDirect.gov.

The new login process will be available beginning September 13, 2026, giving users time to transition before the mandatory deadline. ID.me uses secure technology to verify your identity and protect sensitive financial information, while also allowing access to multiple federal agencies with a single account.

If you already have an ID.me account, you may need to complete additional verification to meet TreasuryDirect’s security standards. Once verified, you can set up your ID.me digital Wallet, which stores your identity securely and speeds up future logins.
