Ángela Karime Venegas Hernández, a 16-year-old Mexican student from CET IS 78 in Altamira, Tamaulipas, developed an acoustic fire extinguisher using sound waves to suppress flames. Her device combines a 12-volt battery, frequency generator, and speaker emitting 30 pulses per second, displacing oxygen from fires and extinguishing them in five to eight seconds. After over 100 tests on candles, wood, flammable liquids, cooking grease, and electronic equipment, she confirmed its effectiveness without pollution, residue, or harm to users.

The invention, named “Vortex Tech”, originated as a school project and has earned her a spot to represent Mexico at an international science fair. There, she will showcase her innovation as a novel approach to addressing one of humanity’s oldest threats—fire—using clean, non-toxic technology.
