This move aims to combat malware by requiring all apps distributed outside Google Play to be registered by verified developers. The change targets regions like Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand where fraudulent app scams are prevalent, forcing repeat offenders to face stricter accountability. Developers will need to pass identity checks similar to airport security, confirming their legitimacy without reviewing app content. This developer verification system, already successful on Google Play since 2023, will now apply to sideloaded apps globally by 2027.
