Eurosky is building a European alternative to Big Tech social media platforms, launching in February 2026 with a focus on digital sovereignty and open protocols. The non-profit initiative, backed by The Modal Foundation, aims to create infrastructure that enables European entrepreneurs to launch social applications faster and more affordably while keeping data and governance within European jurisdiction.

Built on the AT Protocol, Eurosky will offer users a single account that works across dozens of open web applications including Bluesky, Flashes, and Tangled. This approach addresses Europe's dependency on US-owned systems by providing interoperability and user control over data and algorithms. The project targets startups, media organizations, and civic institutions seeking alternatives to platforms dominated by foreign companies.

With Bluesky already demonstrating scalability at over 40 million users, Eurosky sees an opportunity to establish European-hosted infrastructure for the open social web. The organization is currently raising funding to scale its infrastructure and grow the ecosystem, positioning itself as a critical component of Europe's digital independence strategy. By embedding European values from the start, Eurosky aims to create a competitive market where multiple companies can thrive without monopoly power or extractive incentives.
