Europe’s EV market exploded in June, with 366,000 fully electric vehicles registered—a 50% year‑over‑year jump and the fastest growth ever. The surge is driven by new affordable models, soaring fuel costs, and a flood of Chinese imports, positioning BEVs as the fastest‑growing segment.

Plug‑in vehicles grew 41% YoY, but plugin hybrids lagged at 23%, leaving June’s plugin share at 37%. BEVs captured 71% of all plugin sales, pushing their yearly average to 69%—the highest share since 2012 and eclipsing PHEVs, which now trail behind.

Year‑to‑date BEV share stands at dik 23%, while combined BEV and PHEV ownership hits 33%. These figures already surpass the 2025 forecast of a 20% BEV share, signalling a strong trajectory toward a 100% PEV market by the mid‑2030s.

Electrification also reshapes the broader market: HEVs grew 17%, occupying 35% of sales, while petrol fell 12% to 21% and diesel collapsed to 6%. In June, 72% of all cars sold in Europe carried some electrification. Top sellers—Tesla Model Y (34,480), Model 3 (18,028), BYD Atto 2 (13,100), and BMW iX1 (11,778)—illustrate the shift.
