Shionogi has agreed to acquire Austin, Texas-based drugmaker Intra Bio for $2 billion. The Japanese drugmaker announced Monday that Intra Bio’s expertise will strengthen its rare disease pipeline. Through the transaction, Shionogi will obtain global rights, including intellectual property and commercialization rights, for Aqneursa, which is approved in the U.S. and the European Union for treating neurological manifestations of Niemann-Pick disease type C.
The Japanese company will acquire shares of Intra Bio from existing shareholders, including individuals, trusts, and corporate entities. The acquisition is scheduled to be completed between November and December, according to Shionogi.
