Boston Red Sox center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela exited Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Cleveland Guardians in the third inning after sustaining a right hamstring injury. Rafaela, who had just returned from the injured list due to a right quad strain, pulled up lame while running out a single in the second inning. He initially stayed in the game after being examined by manager Chad Tracy and an athletic trainer, but ultimately left the field.

Rafaela will undergo an MRI on Thursday. The 27-year-old, who won his first Gold Glove last season, had been sidelined since September 3. He made a diving catch on the game's first pitch and handled all three putouts in the first inning.

Entering the game, he was batting .284 with 16 home runs and 70 RBIs. To make room for his return, the team optioned INF/OF Nate Eaton to Triple-A Worcester.
