A new ad flashes images of President Trump to “Love Me,” with the disclaimer: “Paid for by the U.S. government.” The commercial debuted this week on right-wing news outlets, according to Ad Impact, and aired Wednesday on Fox News in markets including Miami, and appeared to air on Newsmax.

Mr. Trump has urged Republicans to treat the November midterms as if he were on the ballot, and asked attendees at a midterm convention in Dallas to join a loyalty oath. The White House called the spots educational public service announcements; a shorter version appeared on its official You Tube site 11 days ago.

Senator Maggie Hassan asked White House chief of staff Susie Wiles for costs, agencies, individuals, funding, contractors, contracts, and invoices. Representative Jamie Raskin said taxpayer funding could violate federal law. Norm Eisen called the ad a transgression of restrictions on publicity or propaganda.

MAGA Inc. has funded other campaign ads. The last line appears delivered by Dana White, who praised Mr. Trump.
