National League club Woking have appointed former England striker Jermain Defoe as their new head coach. The 42-year-old, who retired from playing in 2022 after 23 years in professional football, will take charge at the Meadow Park ground. Defoe, who scored 305 senior goals across 763 appearances and won 20 caps for England, including World Cup appearances in 2010 and 2012, brings extensive playing experience to his first managerial role.

He previously worked in Tottenham's academy for two years before transitioning to full-time coaching. Woking's appointment follows a detailed recruitment process where Defoe's leadership style and footballing philosophy were deemed to align perfectly with the club's long-term vision. Club chairman Todd Johnson emphasized Defoe's ability to drive standards and develop players, stating he will build on the club's existing foundations.

Defoe will be assisted by former Fulham and Halifax manager Paul Bracewell, with current coaching staff Ross and Jake Hyde remaining in their roles.
