Pocket AI App Lets You Build Games, But Meta Controls Output

Pocket, a new mobile app launched by Meta after Meta acquired the team behind the defunct vibe-coding app Gizmo, lets users create interactive "gizmos" via natural language prompts without writing code. The app generates functional game prototypes—like a sling-shot game with enemies, score counters, and power meters—within minutes based on user descriptions. Users can refine their creations through iterative prompting, adding features such as robot enemies, ammo systems, and electric fences.

While the tool dramatically lowers the barrier to game development, all creations are confined to Meta’s platform and shared in a TikTok-style feed with likes, comments, and reposts. There is currently no way to export or use these gizmos outside Meta’s ecosystem, effectively trapping user-generated content within its walled garden. Despite the ease and creativity enabled by AI-assisted vibe coding, the lack of portability raises concerns about long-term ownership and utility of user-made projects.

The app exemplifies how AI is transforming software creation but also highlights the trade-offs when innovation is tied to proprietary platforms.
