Private Equity Deal Flow & Exits

Sellers are testing the market across several sectors, with Audax & Keystone reportedly seeking HVAC exits as general partners face ever-longer holding periods for portfolio companies, a trend noted by analysts tracking exit timelines. In healthcare consolidation, B-Flexion Life Sciences-backed Paratek & Radius Health completed their merger, simultaneously securing a substantial $1.3 billion financing package led by Blackstone Credit & Insurance to support the combination. Elsewhere in the mid-market, Sterling snapped up managed IT services firm Cyber Advisors, while in infrastructure, ICG backed Italian railway maintenance provider Comcreta to fuel expansion amid accelerating investment in Italy’s rail network.

Continuation Vehicles and Secondary Market Activity

The secondary market is seeing adjustments in sector preference, with technology moving down the list of favored continuation vehicle (CV) sectors as dealmakers react to recent market disruptions, according to analysis from Houlihan Lokey. Despite this shift, large-scale capital deployment continues, evidenced by HarbourVest leading an $1.1 billion CV for QHP-backed Azurity Pharmaceuticals to extend that portfolio company’s hold. In a separate large transaction, Ares led a single-asset CV for premium frozen baked goods company Europastry, a feat that follows JC Flowers’ recognition for its Small-Cap Europe Deal of the Year award. Buyers in the secondaries space are prioritizing advantages such as acquiring assets at a discount and eliminating the J-curve.

Sector-Specific Investments & Thematic Bets

Thematic investing remains active, particularly in areas tied to sustainability and specialized services. BNP Paribas Asset Management Alts invested in FarmCarbon to help scale methane reduction technologies within agriculture, while Idealist led a C$50 million growth equity round for sustainable agriculture firm Solugen, with support from the Canada Growth Fund. In intellectual property, Pophouse Entertainment acquired majority ownership in Tina Turner’s music interests, a move related to the firm’s strategy of acquiring cultural assets. Meanwhile, defense technology is showing strong public market momentum, coming after AI drone company Swarmer soared 520% in its Nasdaq debut, potentially clearing the path for other defense tech IPO candidates.

Talent Moves & Fund Strategy Adjustments

The private equity talent pool saw key movements, including HighVista Strategies appointing Raudel Yanez as managing director and PE secondaries head to spearhead a new GP-led secondaries strategy focused on the lower middle market. Separately, former CVC MD Jonathan Au joined Revelation Partners after departing CVC last year. Internally, American Pacific promoted Rahul Mohan to managing director, recognizing his tenure since joining in 2020. Geographically, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development committed $40 million to the Templeton Türkiye private equity fund, which is targeting a total raise of $300 million.

Technology, AI Integration, and Regulatory Focus

Firms are grappling with how to measure the efficacy of artificial intelligence integration, with experts advising managers to focus on quantifying measurable business outputs rather than just piloting AI. In adjacent technology funding, Index backed YC alum Parallel with a $20 million Series A to deploy AI agents within hospital systems, and Sequen secured $16 million to bring its proprietary TikTok-style personalization technology to large consumer businesses. In Europe, regulatory activity is advancing, as the EU unveiled its 28th regime plan after months of negotiation, signaling ongoing efforts to standardize oversight, while UK policymakers face pressure to prevent deeptech startups from migrating overseas.
