Tesla's AI5 System-on-Chip (SoC), designed for Full Self-Driving (FSD), will be mass-produced by Samsung at its new fab in Taylor, Texas. This facility will utilize Samsung's advanced SF2 2 nm node, marking a significant use of its U.S. manufacturing capabilities, partly enabled by the CHIPS Act.

This partnership represents a major win for Samsung, drawing leading-edge production outside its South Korea base. Tesla is increasingly focusing on domestic supply chains, working with both Samsung and TSMC to align chip production with its U.S. operations.

The AI5 chip is projected to rival NVIDIA's "Hopper" architecture, with two AI5 units potentially matching a single "Blackwell" processor. Each AI5 SoC will feature 12 LPDDR5X memory modules from SK hynix, totaling 192 GB of memory. Tesla also has ambitious plans for future chips, including the AI6, with accelerated design cycles and potential collaboration with Intel for advanced packaging.
