Sony signals firm split on PC ports for single-player games

PlayStation CEO Hideaki Nishino told Famitsu that game releases will hinge on each title’s attributes, sending PC versions only when the platform can maximize the experience. He reiterated prior rumors: live‑service multiplayer titles will ship to PC, while single‑player narrative experiences remain on PlayStation to protect platform value. Nishino noted technical limits also matter.

Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier cited two insiders who said a recent Sony town‑hall featured Hermen Hulst declaring all single-player narrative games will be PlayStation‑only. He explained the shift stems from low PC‑port revenues and a desire to keep first‑party IP anchored to Sony’s console ecosystem, leaving little room for case‑by‑case decisions. The memo warned that future contracts will reflect this policy.

The clarification forces developers to choose between broader multiplayer audiences on PC and tighter revenue guarantees on PlayStation for story‑driven titles. Consumers may see fewer single‑player PC releases, while Sony bets that multiplayer reach will offset lost port sales. Retail partners will adjust marketing plans accordingly.
