Sony CEO: PS6 Launch Date Still Uncertain

Rumors about the upcoming Sony PlayStation 6 have circulated for months, promising details on pricing, specs, and a release window. In a new interview with The Wall Street Journal, CEO Hiroki Totoki addressed the missing launch date. He explained that the volatile PC and console hardware market makes it hard to set a concrete price or release date.

Totoki highlighted that memory prices are expected to remain high through 2027, driven by ongoing supply shortages. Given this environment, Sony must “think carefully” about its launch strategy, and the company has “not yet decided” when or at what price it will introduce the new console.

Earlier speculation placed the PS6 release in late 2027, but rumors suggest Sony might push it to 2028 or even 2029 amid the memory crisis. The same crisis could push the console’s price above $900, a possibility that has intensified the debate over a potential delay.

Totoki’s comments lend credence to the latter rumors, indicating that Sony is still weighing its options rather than committing to a fixed launch window.
