Seagate has begun shipping its new 32 TB CMR hard drives, targeting the explosive growth in AI-driven video analytics. The company is showcasing its Exos, SkyHawk AI, and IronWolf Pro models at Intersec 2026. This launch addresses a critical industry need for massive edge storage capacity as organizations generate unprecedented data volumes from video surveillance and smart city initiatives.

IDC reports that over 75% of organizations expect their video data to at least double within five years. AI applications add layers of metadata to every frame, making storage demands unsustainable for older systems. Seagate’s new drives leverage proven CMR technology to help businesses manage this surge, enabling faster investigations and automated compliance without performance compromises.

Melyssa Banda, Seagate’s SVP of Edge Storage, noted that video is becoming searchable business intelligence, requiring a robust data backbone. The drives are available starting January 14 through authorized partners. Priced between $699 and $850, these units are designed to scale AI workloads across hybrid cloud environments, keeping critical archives accessible.
