RetroDECK Drops Switch Emulation Amid Toxicity, Legal Risk

RetroDECK, a popular Linux emulation platform for Steam Deck users, has announced it will permanently remove Nintendo Switch emulation from its software. The decision comes after months of community issues and growing legal concerns surrounding the Ryubing emulator, a fork of the now-defunct Ryujinx Switch emulator.

In a February 19 blog post, RetroDECK's developers cited two primary reasons for the removal: the overwhelming volume of toxicity, support tickets, and community conflicts generated by Switch emulation discussions, and the significant legal exposure facing volunteers due to Nintendo's aggressive intellectual property enforcement. The company noted that Switch emulation consistently produced the highest volume of warnings, bans, and support requests.

The removal will occur in version 0.10.4b, with all Switch-related discussions immediately banned across RetroDECK's communities and social platforms. This decision effectively ends official Switch emulation support through the platform, marking a significant shift in the emulation landscape for Steam Deck users who previously relied on the software for Nintendo console gaming.
