At NAB 2026, Other World Computing unveiled the Express 4M2 Ultra, the industry’s first Thunderbolt 5 enclosure with four NVMe M.2 slots. Housed in aircraft‑grade aluminum and cooled by an adaptive fan, the chassis lets pros install any 2280 or 2242 SSDs and choose RAID 0, 1, 4, 5, 10 or JBOD. Real‑world throughput tops 6622 MB/s, targeting 8K‑plus video pipelines for demanding post‑production work.

The unit adds a second Thunderbolt 5 port, enabling daisy‑chaining of up to five additional Thunderbolt devices or extra Express 4M2 Ultra boxes, which can merge into a single massive volume, or external GPU enclosures. Compatibility spans Thunderbolt 5, 4, 3 (Mac only) and USB4, letting both macOS and Windows workstations tap the bandwidth without extra adapters.

Pre‑orders start today at $399.99 for models without SoftRAID and $549.99 with the bundled RAID software; shipments begin in Q3 2026. By offering DIY flexibility, OWC aims to give video editors and VFX artists a compact, upgradable storage tier that rivals pre‑built high‑end arrays, potentially reshaping how creative studios scale performance on a budget for independent freelancers and mid‑size houses.
