Orico CNM2-U4-GY Brings USB4 Speed to M.2 NVMe Enclosures

Orico launched the CNM2-U4-GY, an M.2 NVMe SSD enclosure featuring 40 Gbps USB4 connectivity. The design accommodates M.2-2280 drives with PCIe 4.0 x4 interfaces, supporting capacities up to 8 TB across multiple form factors including 2260 and 2230 sizes.

The ASMedia ASM2464 controller handles all interface protocols, presenting drives as native NVMe devices over USB4 while switching to USB mass-storage mode with UASP support on older connections. This ensures maximum compatibility across USB generations without requiring special drivers.

An aluminum alloy body houses a 20 mm fan for active cooling, while Orico includes a USB4 Type-C cable with fixed Type-A adapter. However, USB-A connections limit bandwidth to 10 Gbps, making the full-speed experience dependent on host port availability.

At $70, this enclosure bridges legacy and modern connectivity standards. The transparent protocol switching delivers optimal performance automatically, making it practical for both current systems and future USB4-equipped machines.
