NVIDIA RTX 50 Series Voltage Caps Spark Performance Concerns

NVIDIA's latest GeForce 595.71 WHQL Game Ready Drivers are causing unexpected performance drops on RTX 50 series graphics cards, according to multiple user reports. The new driver appears to cap GPU core voltages, reducing boost frequencies below 3,000 MHz in some cases. This follows NVIDIA's release yesterday aimed at fixing previous driver issues, including fan detection problems.

Testing by Wccftech revealed that an MSI GeForce RTX 5090 SUPRIM X dropped from 1.020-1.030 V voltage ranges to 1.005-1.010 V after installing the new driver. The frequency reduction stems from NVIDIA's apparent experimentation with lower voltage caps, potentially to limit power draw and prevent overheating of the 12V-2x6 connector. Users report significant performance degradation across multiple gaming titles.

NVIDIA has not acknowledged these voltage restrictions in the driver release notes, leaving users uncertain about whether this is intentional or a bug. The company has yet to respond to mounting complaints on the GeForce Forums. With no official explanation provided, affected users are left waiting for clarification on whether this represents a deliberate power management change or an unintended consequence of the latest driver update.
