MSI Afterburner Adds V/F Heat Map for GPU Boost Visualization

MSI Afterburner is testing a new voltage/frequency (V/F) curve editor that features a heat map, letting users see the exact frequency their GPU hits at each voltage level. Developer "Unwinder" says the upcoming beta will let users record and view the V/F heat map by pressing "M" in the editor, revealing the NVIDIA GeForce RTX Boost algorithm in action. The tool shows how the GPU moves between voltage points according to the pre‑set V/F curve, and highlights improvements introduced with the "Blackwell" architecture, where dynamic voltage frequency scaling (DVFS) makes curve transitions up to 1,000 times faster and far smoother than on older designs.

In the beta, a gradient‑yellow heat map marks the most frequently hit V/F points, with example recordings from a GeForce RTX 5090 and a RTX 4090, illustrating differences between the Ada Lovelace and Blackwell generations. TechPowerUp also uses its own visualization software, shown in a second image, to compare the profiles.
