AMD Tests FSR Multi-Frame Generation Up to 8x

AMD is testing FSR multi-frame generation (MFG) for Radeon RX GPUs, discovered via third-party tool RadeonTuner. The software revealed preliminary driver support with placeholders for 1x to 8x variants, though the feature remains hidden and non-functional.

A user tested the feature on a Radeon RX 9060 XT with latest drivers across games like Forza Horizon 6, Pragmata, Resident Evil 9, Crimson Desert, and Death Stranding 2, but found no operational support. AMD has not released the necessary model, suggesting months until final release.

AMD arrives late to MFG; NVIDIA already offers DLSS Dynamic MFG up to 6x, and Intel provides Xe SS MFG at 4x. AMD GPUs currently lack hardware-based flip metering for frame pacing, relying on software pacing. MFG may debut on RX 9000 series and future RDNA 5/UDNA architectures if hardware flip metering is added.
