Video game journalist Jason Schreier has confirmed that more layoffs are imminent at Blizzard. Speaking on a recent 8-4 Play podcast episode, Schreier addressed speculation that Blizzard announced multiple projects at BlizzCon, including Diablo V and StarCraft Dominion, to preemptively avoid layoffs and shift negative sentiment toward Microsoft. Schreier stated the layoffs are a continuation of the broader Xbox Reset, which is expected to result in as many as 3,200 total job losses at Xbox before the end of the fiscal year.

He noted that the layoffs actually started in July, with news breaking in June, and that BlizzCon announcements were planned well in advance. The recent unionization effort at Blizzard, covering 1,900 workers, adds further context to the ongoing restructuring at the Xbox-owned studio.
