The MIPI Alliance has unveiled major updates to its foundational specifications with UniPro v3.0 and M-PHY v6.0, designed to enhance performance for next-generation JEDEC Universal Flash Storage (UFS 5.0) solutions. These specifications deliver significant improvements in speed, latency, and power efficiency to support emerging edge AI workloads across smartphones, tablets, PCs, gaming consoles, automotive, and industrial applications.

For over a decade, M-PHY and UniPro have served as the interconnect layer for JEDEC UFS, enabling high-performance, low-power flash storage across a broad range of devices. The latest releases build on this foundation with advances that address the growing demand for low-latency, high-bandwidth data access and processing essential for modern AI applications. The specifications target applications where power efficiency and rapid data transfer are critical.

According to Hezi Saar, chair of MIPI Alliance, these updates enable emerging edge AI workloads where low-latency, high-bandwidth, and power-efficient data access, processing, and storage are increasingly essential.
