Late last week, we reported that the Windows 11 August update was causing gameplay issues such as forced crashes, random freezing, errors, and unexpected device restarts. Microsoft investigated and found the interaction between games and RGB peripherals was the root cause. They released a workaround involving a registry hack and marked the issue as resolved, despite no proper update being provided.

Microsoft pointed to RGB peripherals as problematic, shifting blame to these devices and stating the only solution is to block the inpoutx64 driver from loading. This block targets devices with the driver enabled and the game ARC Raiders installed. The resolution disables the inpoutx64 driver and displays a message window before the game launches normally.

As a workaround, Microsoft recommends disabling the driver via the Windows registry: navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\inpoutx64, set the Start value to 4, then restart. While this resolves the symptom, it does not address the root cause. Microsoft is also working to block RGB peripherals with MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and a similar issue was resolved by Embark Studios for THE FINALS.

The driver block will be included in the September 2026 Windows security updates and later releases.
