Xbox recently announced changes to its Game Pass offering, lowering the price, and some open-source developers have grown tired of PC Game Pass being exclusive to Windows PCs and handhelds. Developers behind Heroic Games Launcher have started development on Xodus, a new open-source project designed to bring support for PC Game Pass games to Linux and macOS.

The project is still in its infancy but aims to use Valve's Proton and custom, reverse-engineered runtimes to get Game Pass and potentially Xbox PC Games running on alternative operating systems. Currently, the only way to play Game Pass games on Linux is via Xbox Cloud streaming, which has latency and connectivity issues.

If Xodus succeeds, running Game Pass games on Linux may become as seamless as running regular Windows games via Steam and Proton. The project board also includes adding support for third-party launchers like Heroic, Lutris, and Bottles. Developer im Linguin noted the team has already figured out authorization and game downloads, but games do not yet run on Linux.
