Kioxia and Sandisk announced a significant investment of over $31 billion (approximately 5 trillion yen) in Japan through 2032, contingent on government support. This funding will expand their NAND flash memory production at the Yokkaichi and Kitakami plants, addressing growing demand driven by AI and data-centric technologies.

The companies, partners for over 25 years, have already invested more than $50 billion in Japan. The new investment aims to boost bit growth and ensure stable supply of advanced memory. Executives from both firms emphasized the importance of this collaboration in meeting future technology needs.

Kioxia President and CEO Hiroo Ota stated the investment strengthens their commitment to AI-driven innovation. Sandisk Chairman and CEO David Goeckeler highlighted the economic benefits for Japan and the U.S.-Japan partnership. The move supports the Japanese government's economic goals and reinforces the region's role in global semiconductor production.
