JetStor has deployed an 80 PB high-density archive for a government agency using WD Ultrastar 26 TB drives, marking one of the largest on-premises storage deployments in the public sector. The solution consists of 132 JetStor XS3324D systems and 3,200 enterprise-class hard drives, designed to meet stringent security requirements for long-term data retention.

Public-sector IT teams face unique challenges when scaling storage infrastructure without disrupting production networks or retraining staff. JetStor addressed this by standardizing the deployment into repeatable POD building blocks anchored by WD Ultrastar DC HC590 drives. The dual Fibre Channel fabric architecture enables seamless expansion while maintaining straightforward infrastructure management from day one.

The massive archive deployment demonstrates how organizations can achieve cost-efficient capacity at scale while maintaining predictable performance and durability. Gene Leyzarovich, JetStor's Founder, emphasized the importance of predictable architecture that remains serviceable as it grows. Dan Christman from WD noted that such deployments showcase how their Ultrastar drives enable resilient, scalable data foundations for long-term retention and access.
