Intel PresentMon 2.6.0 Cuts CPU Usage by 78%

Intel has released PresentMon 2.6.0, a major update that reduces the tool's own CPU overhead by up to 78%. The improvement comes from using less aggressive timing for ETW flushing and other background tasks that don't require split-second precision. Diagnostic log flushing has also been adjusted to lower idle CPU load, which matters because PresentMon runs constantly in the background while capturing frame data.

The update introduces a new Game Experience preset for the overlay. Instead of standard frame time and FPS readouts, it highlights metrics that Intel says better reflect how smooth motion and animation appear during gameplay, rather than just raw frame counts.

Additionally, the update adds per-metric multi-device selection, allowing telemetry from multiple GPUs to appear in the same overlay. Unavailable metrics now remain visible (dimmed, with an explanation) instead of disappearing from the picker entirely. PresentMon 2.6.0 is free, open source, and available through Intel's PresentMon page.
